Every year electric cooperatives in Missouri sponsor essay contests to select delegates to the annual Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. These fortunate high school students represent their local cooperative on a whirlwind tour of the nation's capital. They tour museums, visit America's most cherished monuments and even meet their elected officials. All the while they are learning about electric cooperatives and their role in the community.

Q: Who goes on the trip?
A: Around 80 high school juniors from all across Missouri along with the other 1,500 students from across the country.
Q: How do we travel on the trip?
A: We will be chartered by bus to the St. Louis airport where we will fly Southwest Airlines to D.C. Once in D.C. we will be chartered on nice air conditioned buses for the week.
Q: What will we do when we get to Washington D.C.?
A: We will tour all major monuments and museums. One night we will go on a “Dinner and Dance” Cruise on the Potomac River, and another day will be Youth Day where we will meet up with all other states for some fun. Plus many other fun things.
Q: What will we do for all of our meals?
A: Your local electric co-op will be paying for all your meals while on the trip. We will eat at the hotel or out while touring.
Q: How much money do I need to bring?
A: That is up to you. Everything on the trip is provided to you, the only thing you will need money for is the souvenirs you choose to buy.
Q: Who will the chaperones be?
A: The chaperones will be 10 to 12 co-op employees and their spouses from across the state.
Q: How will I know what to wear and how will I get specific info about the trip?
A: When you are picked as a winner, you will receive a winner’s packet with forms you will return to AMEC, the co-ops statewide office. Once we receive the forms we will send you 3 separate mailings that give you all trip details.
