State Fair
Missouri’s electric cooperatives have a large presence at the Show-Me State’s most treasured traditions — the Missouri State Fair. Cooperative employees from across the state will be on hand inside the Missouri’s Electric Cooperatives Building through the duration of the fair, staffing informative exhibits and displays.
“There’s always lots to see and do at the state fair, and we hope that between rides on the midway and concerts in the grandstand, fairgoers will take a minute to stop by and see us,” says Nikki Roach, member services manager for the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives. “Our building is air-conditioned, so come inside, cool off for a little while and learn more about how electric co-ops are working for their members.”
Energy conservation and efficiency are highlighted, including topics such as heating and cooling, insulation, lighting and construction practices. The ever-popular “energy bikes” are always popular, allowing children and adults to take a spin and feel how much energy is required to power even just a single light bulb.
Annually AMEC sponsors a “Missouri Electric Cooperative Day” at the fair, allowing visitors to the Missouri Electric Cooperatives Building to receive discounts to events at the fair. Your cooperatives go to great lengths to promote energy efficiency and save you money.
Rural Missouri is also ever-present at the state fair. Magazine staff will be on hand to chat with readers, and Kids’ Page mascot Buddy Bear makes appearances throughout the day. Be sure to bring the kids and get a free snapshot to take home. Also, when you stop in, swing by the Rural Missouri booth and sign up to win an annual giveaway!
